How to Be an Encourager: The Power of Support

Life is full of challenges, troubles and times of adversity. Sometimes the weight of it all wears you out, or it pushes you down. It would be good if in those moments, someone could help us push back, help us carry the weight. It would be great if someone could come alongside us and support us.

Support in times of hardship is incredibly powerful. Its power couldn’t be overestimated. It could literally save lives, or make a difference between success and failure. We all need support from time to time. On the other hand, from time to time we are the ones that can provide support to others.

Support, this word comes from the Latin ‘supportare’, which literally means ‘to carry from below’. How great would it be to come alongside someone and help them carry their weight, to help support them.

It is very important to have a support network of family and/or friends. Our relationships thrive when we support others and we feel supported by them.

In our support network we let people know that we have their back. We are there for them when they need a hand. We let them know they have a safe place where they can share their anxieties, stress and their troubles.

We also can provide support by encouraging people when new opportunities arise. New opportunities often come with new uncertainties. What if it all falls through, or what if it fails? We can be the best encouragers by letting them know that we believe in them and in their ability to succeed.

We can’t solve everyone’s problems. We can’t take people’s troubles or challenges away. However, we can come alongside and help them in their struggles, or spur them on in new opportunities.

Our support can provide just that extra strength to help people win their battles and overcome their challenges. It can be the difference in their success or their failure.
